Social Experimentation

Floyd is intended to serve as an experiment in how having global communication affects the social structure of ccr. While Floyd hopes to be socially positive, there is the risk that in removing some of the needs for local interactions between people, people will no longer bother to meet. If it is easy for someone to sit in his or her home world and find other people, there is less incentive for people to wander around the world, and therefore people are less likely to have random interactions with new things. If I can call my buddy on the telephone, why should I go down to the local coffeeshop and look for him?

In the physical world people have asked questions about the impact of every new communication technology: telephones, television, electronic mail have all had their celebrants and critics. Floyd is intended to not only provide another technology that expands our communication capabilities, but to force the question of what social impact that change has.
