Synopsis

Emily Burkhead is a former postdoctoral fellow at the Santa Fe Institute. Her research interests are in ergodic theory and dynamical systems, and in particular, symbolic dynamics and cellular automata. Under the direction of Jane Hawkins, Emily completed a master's project which investigated a particular classification of one dimensional cellular automata, and then developed a topological classification of cellular automata in higher dimensions for her Ph.D. thesis.

A recipient of the National Physical Science Consortium Fellowship, Emily spent two summers interning with her sponsoring employer in Maryland. She worked in a research group focused on a model of a phased array antenna, and subsequently worked with in-building RF propagation and monitoring.
